Mediocre and Generic Space Shooter

The game is your basic side-scroll shoot-or-avoid space game, with very little to add to the table, let alone something new. There were space rocks, space rocks that were twice as strong, ships, ships that fired back at you, and their varieties.

Your ship could move back and forth, up and down, but never at the same time, nor was there ever a good reason not to hug the left screen. Your ship was defined as a square, so an object could hit you without it visibly touching it. At the end of the level, you reached a portal that whipped you to the next level without any sort of introduction, announcement, or even sound.

There weren't powerups, bosses, a notification of damage, story (because a few sentences in the comments doesn't qualify), or anything to make this game unique or interesting in any way. This game felt like a test for ActionScript, not a demo.

There wasn't really that much wrong with the game, just nothing good about it. It's good to see some initiative though, so hopefully we can see a much more complete demo in the future.

Sincerely,
-TikiShades, of the Shades Gang

Ample Research, Little Payoff.

I give you the points for a very well written newgrounds Quiz. By that, I mean that the questions were well researched. And that's just a guess really, but I'd assume you went and looked for the actual answers.

The ranking system is bugged, as in the person didn't think his math out really, and seemed to just blindsight a rank system that sounded right. As I'm well aware that it was already mentioned, it's important, because there isn't anything else in this flash worth mentioning. Sure you had those "passwords" that I didn't bother to find, since 30 seconds per question is nowhere near ample time to go searching.

It's also apparent that someone spends a little too much time on the BBS, as quite a few of the questions would only be known to the extremely nerdy people who live there. Besides that, there's quite a few things I thought would be put into such a quiz, such as Pico and Tankmen references. Sure, they mentioned Jerry Jackson and Salad Fingers, but neither of those are that "big" on Newgrounds. There were some flashes that I didn't even recognize on there, making me feel left out, but then remembering that I've heard of almost everything on Newgrounds that was ever really notable, and I have an excellent memory.

If anything else, Quiz games are awful. I gave you a 4 out of 10 for having the effort of compiling this vast of (selective) knowledge on Newgrounds.

Well, It's about Newgrounds and it's a quiz so it isn't my problem you doesn't like 'em!

Failure recks in a good game

I've played 1 and 2, and I have to say that this isn't your best work. Well, no that's a lie. This is about average of your programming work in this department. You don't always seem to get down a few aspects, and considering how this is a very simple genre of actionscript, I have to say that it wasn't up to par.

One of your biggest weaknesses is that the drawing itself is faulty. You had it right the first time. Now, it's choppy, and VERY unreliable near NO DRAW areas, as they don't always want to keep inside their little box, and decide to explore other regions as well. For many parts of the game, I had to simply jump to avoid the lasers and the bullets so I could wait for draw to work again. And it wasn't a quality thing either, because it happens on all qualities. I eventually passed the level when I tried another path, but that's crap that I have to think of how YOU did it, because of faulty coding. Unless you did that on purpose, and if that is the case, you take away what is supposed to be in this game: ORIGINALITY. The game was founded on HOW CAN U SOLV UT? and by taking that away you ruin the experience.

A platformer shouldn't be reliant on how well its coded, its supposed to be about if you can just make that jump. And if you did that, then you'd no longer have an original idea.

The level design was alright, and the Level Editor was a pretty dumb addon IMO, since the game itself, if it got a Player Pack, would be lessened as a bunch of idiots make impossible platform stages and claim they, their friend, and you of course, can complete them, leaving all of us in the shadows of failure.

It was a fun game, but I really think you could have done better.

Why would I include impossible lvls in a level pack though :P

A Great Idea, and a great amount of lag...

The game itself had a wonderful idea, and I was entertained up until the enemies gained to its second rank of difficulty. The it was just annoying! I had to run and make sure the red things didn't run in, and when they had no health left, my direct attacks went to no avail. My tornadoes did little to slow, and my lightening did little better than my fists did, which is a confusing thought.

It was a tower defense game you actually played, and not just watched, and that was it's strong point. It also had Achievements, which gave a sense of replay value and something to work for. Yet, what made up in Action, it lacked in actual Towers. There were only 4 towers! The only one I particularly liked was the Vine, because it could snag at least 3 enemies at a time, did plenty of damage, and at faster rates than any of my other towers did. While it was only supposed to hit the ground enemies, it occasionally hit the flying ones as well, which was a great part of it. All of the others, save for the Tornado, were complete crap. The tornado did damage, sure, but it still came out in intervals, despite it saying it did constant damage. It also was supposed to slow, but didn't always feel like it, as if it were indecisive and wished it were one of my Vine towers that were getting all the attention.

Eventually, it became panicy, which is the worst part of a tower defense game. That point where everything is going too fast for you and killing your Base, while you are completely incapable of stopping it. It was at that point, when the dead enemies did not die, and my towers all sucked, that I stopped the game, and started this review.

This game is a headache and a half mid-way, but maybe that was always the attraction of Tower Defense. No wonder I don't like them... Ah oh well. This game will go down as one of the best Tower Defense games, but that never says too much, since Tower Defense is awful.

The classic Sniper game... with a knife game?

The sniping parts were fun, and I liked how there were ways to fail them, and the cleverness to them. The game itself gave me a sort of "itchy trigger finger" and a nervous aim, which only adds to the fun. The crosshair was also a bit easier to control, and wasn't that annoying "roll mouse to edge of screen to move camera" thing that makes it "realistic" by making it near impossible to move a gun around. You also allowed for multiple crosshair types, which was neat, but didn't offer anything new to the table, save for the looks.

There were some annoying habits of the game as well:
-The "High Score" system: You lose points for however long you are taking, so for the objectives that took time, say "Wait for him to answer the door", it became a nuisance, and making me rush a shooting isn't how it should go.

-The Knife Minigames: These were incredibly annoying. I can understand a shaky grip on a dagger, but he was downright convulsing! It was a lucky shot at best, and since if you messed up (which happened for me 20 times), not only did I get a point deduction for Fail Objective, I also got minus for Death, AND since I need to wait for the man's flapping hands to POSSIBLY strike the annoyingly tiny targets, I got minus 1 point a milisecond.

I would have gotten a great score, but since those few bothers mentioned above, I got a -5000. Remove the Timer Point thing, and allow us to stab the opponents ourselves (Make the success points extremely tiny, so WE will be the ones shaking, and not the game), then this game will be good. I don't like this one as much as I did the other ones, so keep at it. I like that you are trying to think outside the box, but don't go too far.

A hard game that rocks hard.

Although the difficulty is off the charts, I can't help but love your work into this. When you miss a shot, it makes a bullet hole in the walls. Enemies have different weapons, like grenades and faster guns. The main character has an upgraded look, which looks so much better than his predecessors ' looks. I have even put this game on my favorites list, for the simple fact that I will not let this game get the better of me.

Eagerly awaiting Awesome Shooter 2 (which may want a better name...),

PS- Sorry I didn't add enough dick into my review. I would've liked to add more, but I don't think it could have fit. And sorry about being late for the premier. I'll add you to my favorite Authors so I don't forget again.

It was pretty

You had some good graphic design in here. It needed more to it though. Like... a background, more enemies, platform sense, some music, etc.

Instead of submitting it again and again, work on it. Keep at this, I like it. Just fix it up, finish it, and the stuff I mentioned above.

Buggy, but I didn't see any lag

Level 0 was impossible to get past. The jump was too high. Also, there was no audio sound, other than music. And the Shotgun, which seems to be the focus of the game, does nothing. You can't kill those balls of light. You need to make the objective clear, and fix up the other stuff mentioned above.

Also, NEVER EVER EVER SUBMIT SOMETHING WHEN YOU ONLY WORKED ON IT FOR 35 MINUTES! Especially a game. Games take longer to make than regular flash, therefore more work is required. A flash should be worked on for at least an hour or so before you decide to submit it. A game, I'd say around an hour and a half. And that's the limit. Not that when you work on something for an hour, its all good. That should be your limit.

Also, if you decide to resubmit, then test your game. You may notice some of the errors yourself.

1 actually, it takes a few shots 2 kill teh enemies.
2 there are other sound effects
3 did u even w8 for the game to load?

A Simple Game, Yes.

I found myself slightly amused with this game's wide variety of mayhem. Yet, if you work on it some more, this could be a great game.

Oh no! I gave him criticism ! Ima gonna get punched in the face! AHHH! Nah, nah, I'm just messing with you man. Good job with this. Hope you get over your thing with criticism.

A fair review from a totall asshole, how about that.
I kno the game's a bit pointless, i wouldnt even call it a game. but i have been experimenting with flash buttons recently, and i wanted to make something like this.
I'll be making a proper shooter after i fix a few of the glitches

I made this is less than 2 days, so i really dont care for critism on it,
My last game took me a long time to make, so I got REAL pissed off with dickheads trying to put it down.

Thanx for the review anyway... ass... only messin man lol

Kinda cute...

I liked it. It was pretty short, but it showed some artistic talent and... uhh... stuff.

Just wait a sec for the thing to load, and the buttons will work.
